is this normal behaviour or a bug? I am using JanRain Lib / PHP and trying to use SimpleReg. Now when i try to assign signed_args within a successful response, and the sreg fields are missing, i get a failure response with 'No session state found'.
- [08:49:56] <m3nt0r>
i wonder why an already successful response changes to a failure response only because of the fields missing.. it should stay successful and leave the fields just empty. The requested fields have been set to optional and if a user chooses to not send them it should still work

hi. I have a kinda embarrassing question. I'm writing a consumer (in python), and the url that the OpenID server redirects back to after success, has ?openid.assoc_handle=... and similar field names in the url query
- [18:35:39] <zzzendotcom>
now here's the stupid bit. for some reason, it messes up the system I'm in if there's a dot inside a field name
- [18:36:37] <zzzendotcom>
I'm trying to patch *them* up as well (plus nudge the mailing list and wiki),
- [18:37:21] <zzzendotcom>
but maybe there's a way to tell the OpenID server something like nodots=1 :)
- [18:38:16] <bricas>
what the heck kind of software can't handle query string keys with dots in them? =)
- [18:38:18] <zzzendotcom>
by them, I mean http://www.object-craft.com.au/projects/albatross/
- [18:38:35] <zzzendotcom>
I know it's daft
- [18:39:19] <bricas>
i'd say you best bet is to fix the framework.
- [18:39:20] <zzzendotcom>
tried to tweak their lib, but tweaked it wrong (long boring story)
- [18:39:40] <zzzendotcom>
I'll do it again
- [18:39:50] <zzzendotcom>
thanks for the moral support :)
- [18:40:15] <bricas>
do they have a ticket tracker?
- [18:40:51] <bricas>
no self respecting hacker likes open tickets. =)
- [18:40:54] <zzzendotcom>

oh crickey, it doesn't support unicode -- quick, run away. heh.
- [18:42:12] <zzzendotcom>
it supports utf-8 :)

"Note that, at least partially, you can get away with encoding text as utf-8 prior to sending it to albatross, and a number of applications are exploiting this in production. The above refers to end-to-end unicode support."
- [18:44:36] <bricas>
well, whatever. not my problem :)
- [18:45:08] <zzzendotcom>
I've been doing english/hebrew/arab sites like http://gush-shalom.org and "supports utf-8" is fine with me :)
- [18:45:52] <zzzendotcom>
but they *should* have a way to get a dot inside a field name, or I want my money back :)
- [18:46:45] <cygnus>
yikes.
- [18:47:14] <cygnus>
Strangely, OpenID integration often reveals problems in software.. :)
- [18:48:01] <GabeWE61>

- [18:48:55] <zzzendotcom>

but it has a "somebody else's problem" field around it
- [18:50:21] <zzzendotcom>
it's a problem that only I can see :)
- [18:50:50] <GabeWE61>
I find a lot of developers dont bother to read specs they are implemening and just work off examples
- [18:51:29] <GabeWE61>
So if you are weriting specs, make sure your examples are as fully illustrative as you can makew them
- [18:52:46] <GabeWE61>
Im typing on a phone through a plastic cover.
- [18:52:50] <zzzendotcom>
it's not the example itself that matters. I'm just using it to demonstrate a bug (on doing it on *their* server has style)
- [18:53:49] <zzzendotcom>
s/(on/(and/
- [18:54:06] <zzzendotcom>
anyway, back to patching up their library

- [20:13:58] <cygnus>
and by the way, Gabe*, I was talking about *PHP*.
- [20:13:59] <cygnus>
gah.
- [20:14:22] <dmb>
like, is there any large identity providers
- [20:15:55] <cygnus>
assuming a liberal definition of "large", I can list openid.aol.com, www.myopenid.com, and pip.verisignlabs.com
- [20:16:51] <dmb>
oh
- [20:16:59] <dmb>
interesting
- [20:17:12] <dmb>
it looks like this project is being supported well by big companies
- [20:18:24] <cygnus>
I can't speak for everyone in the channel, but lots of OpenID software developers and other folks lurk here.
- [20:18:27] <cygnus>
fyi.
- [20:19:22] <dmb>
cool

are the wordpress devs thinking of supporting openid?

- [20:19:50] <dmb>
how about phpbb folks?
- [20:20:01] <cygnus>
in what sense? in individual wordpress installs, or on wordpress.com?
- [20:20:19] <cygnus>
phpbb already supports it to some degree
- [20:21:27] <dmb>
cygnus: individual installs
- [20:21:40] <dmb>
so when you want to post a comment, you just give the uri
- [20:21:49] <cygnus>
dmb: unknown (to me) whether official support is planned
- [20:21:57] <cygnus>
dmb: there are various plugins that implement it, however.
- [20:22:04] <dmb>
oh
- [20:22:27] <dmb>
small question, everyone that has an aol screen name also has an openid?
- [20:22:34] <cygnus>
yes
- [20:22:45] <dmb>
interesting
- [20:22:51] <dmb>
i suppose google may do that eventually
- [20:23:03] <cygnus>
I personally doubt it.
- [20:23:24] <dmb>
why?
- [20:24:50] <cygnus>
As a server, I suppose there's a slight chance, but it's hard to say. As a consumer, it's probably not going to happen because they probably want service lock-in.
- [20:25:04] <dmb>
true
- [20:25:12] <dmb>
but i thought microsoft would want the same
- [20:25:18] <dmb>
and they seem to be trying to support it
- [20:25:26] <cygnus>
well, Microsoft is in an entirely different position.
- [20:25:41] * tav (n=tav@82.153.66.152) has joined #openid

Microsoft has tried at SSO and virtually failed.
- [20:26:05] <cygnus>
I would not put "failure" on Google's list of accomplishments quite yet, although that does not preclude them from getting interested in a more open SSO solution.

no, Passport

.net passport :)
- [20:33:23] <dmb>
didn't ebay use that at one point?
- [20:33:25] <cygnus>
well, Passport existed before .net
- [20:33:35] <cygnus>
I don't konw
- [20:33:38] <cygnus>
know, either
- [20:33:47] <dmb>
oh
- [20:34:40] <cygnus>
hm, I think I'm wrong: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Passport_Network
- [20:36:48] <gregh_>
http://web.archive.org/web/19991012193939/http://passport.com/ is the earliest I see

that was before the .NET unveiling (which was at the 2000 PDC)
- [20:37:01] <dmb>
oh
- [20:37:11] <dmb>
i think it was originally called passport
- [20:37:17] <dmb>
then they changed it to .net passwort

then to whatever it is now

has anyone had trouble using JanRain's standalone php server to claim a blog on technorati?
- [23:01:30] <cygnus>
whafro: what's the specific issue?
- [23:02:26] <whafro>
I was clicking on the "claim this via openid" link at technorati, and I was being shot to my openid server's front page (with lots of seemingly-nonaffectual url parameters)... I wasn't being prompted to login, allow technorati, etc...
