Is there any known compatibility issues with latest python openid library?
- [17:07:35] <Almad>
(version 2)
- [17:08:40] <Almad>
server works fine with my sites using same library, but I'm failing to log in from *some* other sites
- [17:09:03] <keturn>
not so far.
- [17:09:36] <keturn>
hmm, what step do they fail at? i.e. do you get redirected to your server, or does it fail in discovery?
- [17:09:45] <Almad>
verification
- [17:10:01] <Almad>
or Server denied check_authentication.
- [17:10:05] <Almad>
depending on site
- [17:11:45] <keturn>
huh. can you tell if they are establishing an association first?
- [17:12:35] <Almad>
mmt, I'll check log
- [17:14:00] <Almad>
hmm
- [17:14:00] <Almad>
only one request from wikitravel
- [17:14:10] <Almad>
GET /server/?openid.assoc_handle=%7BHMAC-SHA1%7D%7B462bc234%7D%7Bz13DXQ%3D%3D%7D&openid.identity=http%3A%2F%2Falmad.rpghrac.cz%2F&openid.mode=checkid_setup&openid.return_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwikitravel.org%2Fen%2FSpecial%3AOpenIDFinish%3Fnonce%3DUZngZuXT&openid.sreg.optional=nickname%2Cemail%2Cfullname%2Clanguage%2Ctimezone&openid.trust_root=http%3A%2F%2Fwikitravel.org%2Fen%2F
- [17:14:54] <keturn>
but it included an assoc_handle in the checkid request, so it must have done an association at some point
- [17:17:34] * peace-keeper (n=peace-ke@wsip-70-167-127-7.sd.sd.cox.net) has joined #openid
- [17:17:41] * cote (n=cote@wireless.ccld.net) Quit ()
- [17:17:47] <Almad>
true, I just cannot see it...
- [17:18:09] <Almad>
not seeing any associate request, unlike from diagnose server at openidenabled
- [17:19:57] * epeus (i=KevinMar@nat/google/x-95059b22e8f41d43) has joined #openid
- [17:21:37] <keturn>
well, diagnose server is a bit crazy in that it will make one _every time_ you start a session with it, just to test things
- [17:21:43] * cote (n=cote@wireless.ccld.net) has joined #openid
- [17:22:06] <keturn>
if wikitravel is sane, they probably cache the association for as long as its valid
- [17:22:24] <keturn>
so maybe they made a request the first time you tried it out there, but not since then
- [17:23:07] <Almad>
hm
- [17:24:11] <Almad>
I'm just trying to resolve where the problem is at all and slowly going crazy, as I'm not skilled in this whole openid specification thing
- [17:25:11] <keturn>
if you let me know which servers you've had problems with, I'll take a look at it a little later today
- [17:26:03] <Almad>
I'm implementing my own on top of python library and examples in it
- [17:26:35] <keturn>
I'm glad you're testing this out, because I hope to take the "release candidate" off the version string real soon, so it's good for me to find problems before then
- [17:27:11] <keturn>
oh, right, I guess I meant which RPs your server is having a problem with
- [17:27:39] <Almad>
trying to determine, but at least wordpress openid plugin
- [17:27:59] <Almad>
wikitravel
- [17:32:29] <Almad>
hm
- [17:33:27] <Almad>
keturn: communication with netscape.com: http://dpaste.com/8929/
- [17:33:38] <Almad>
(result it 'server denied authorization')
- [17:36:59] * cote_ (n=cote@67.32.112.97) has joined #openid
- [17:38:29] <keturn>
hmm, that signed list in checkauth has openid 2.0 style namespacing on the sreg fields... but the original request didn't.
- [17:40:06] <keturn>
I gotta go, but I'll look at it more a little later today.
- [17:40:44] <Almad>

it is, but I'm not experienced openid man
- [20:42:39] <Almad>
but I guess you can use anyone
- [20:42:49] <Almad>
depending on platform you want to run
- [20:43:20] * Almad programming his own on top of janrain's libraries

Really, regardless of "liking" it, you're better off delegating than running your own server, unless you plan to add features that no existing server supports.
- [20:59:24] * Almad plans it
- [20:59:54] <tbbrown>
perhaps he doesn't want another server tracking every openid site he visits?
- [21:03:21] * Prometheus^ (n=Promethe@cs181170022.pp.htv.fi) Quit ()
- [21:03:46] <gregh>
I wrote my own openid server because I wanted to understand how the protocol really works
- [21:05:02] <gregh>
there's lots of reasons why you might want to run your own
- [21:09:22] * rgl (n=Rui@84.90.10.107) Quit ("Leaving")
- [21:24:42] <chowells79>
I didn't say there weren't reasons. I said that unless you need a feature that no existing provider offers (and if you're paranoid enough, lack of tracking is such a feature), those reasons don't outweigh the advantages of settling on an actively maintained provider.
- [21:25:47] * SamRose (n=chatzill@c-71-206-125-50.hsd1.mi.comcast.net) Quit ("ChatZilla 0.9.78.1 [Firefox 2.0.0.3/2007030919]")
- [21:26:11] <chowells79>
(Note that wrt tracking, many see having a full audit trail as a positive feature, not a negative. But it's clearly something that depends on the use.)
- [21:32:31] <tbbrown>
maybe windows laptops will ship with openid servers one day so that a user can make her blog delegate to laptop. whenever the laptop moves, it will update the delegation link on the blog?
- [21:35:43] <_keturn>
it'd require the laptop to always have a public IP, which is pretty rare
- [21:36:16] <tbbrown>
ipv6? :)
