good morning (GMT)
- [02:57:31] <the|saint>
anyone available?
- [02:57:50] <tjohns>
And a good morning to you, as well.
- [03:01:34] <the|saint>
hi
- [03:01:53] <the|saint>
i'm here struggling to get an openid server up and running
- [03:02:05] <the|saint>
I was using Clamshell... seemed pretty nice
- [03:02:09] <the|saint>
But I got some errors
- [03:02:22] <the|saint>
(namingly one bad redirect error... :/)
- [03:02:40] <the|saint>
Do you recommend other servers or there are alternatives
- [03:03:10] <the|saint>
I was looking for a solution that supporter multi user and some neat web interface admin or so...
- [03:06:16] <tjohns>
I can't recommend anything, but there's a list of server software here you can look through: http://wiki.openid.net/Run_your_own_identity_server
- [03:06:39] <the|saint>
Hum...
- [03:06:48] <the|saint>
I already knowed that :)
- [03:07:05] <the|saint>
I was trying PHP OpenID Server
- [03:07:17] <the|saint>
But needs too much resources
- [03:07:27] <the|saint>
It's only for a couple of users
- [03:07:32] <the|saint>
:/
- [03:07:37] <tjohns>
Personally, I haven't found a standalone OpenID server that I like yet. But I'm excessively picky. ;)
- [03:07:46] <the|saint>
Clamshell seems pretty nice but goes error :S
- [03:07:57] <the|saint>
I see
- [03:08:00] <the|saint>
What do you use?
- [03:08:03] <the|saint>
Verisign?
- [03:08:38] <tjohns>
Right now I'm using Verisign, but their UI needs some work too.
- [03:08:55] <the|saint>
hum... isee
- [03:09:13] <the|saint>
I find a little difficult to have others handle my identity :)
- [03:09:32] <the|saint>
Therefore my struggle to setup my own server... :)
- [03:09:35] <tjohns>
For example, their auto-fill mechanism for SRE/AX requires a bit too much clicking.
- [03:10:01] <tjohns>
Running my own server is definitely on my list of things to do. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.
- [03:11:46] <the|saint>
Hum...
- [03:11:49] <the|saint>
Well
- [03:12:05] <the|saint>
I think I'm going to battle a little bit more on Clamshell
- [03:12:12] <the|saint>
And try to put it up...
- [03:12:33] <tjohns>
Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
- [03:12:38] <the|saint>
(I used myopenid.com before and seemed nice, but its a trust issue again :) )
- [03:12:44] <the|saint>
Yhea
- [03:12:53] <the|saint>
I'm gonna mark this chan as one of my fav
- [03:13:07] <the|saint>
I'm really interested on this subject...
- [03:13:08] <the|saint>
Cheers
- [03:13:13] <the|saint>
And thanks anyway
- [03:13:18] <the|saint>
Catch u l8r
- [03:43:30] <the|saint>
I quit... :S
- [03:43:45] <the|saint>
I've got a problem with my network...
- [03:43:58] <the|saint>
And that is causing some problems...
- [03:56:10] * stub (n=stub@canonical/launchpad/stub) Quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
- [03:56:43] * stub (n=stub@ppp-58-8-5-121.revip2.asianet.co.th) has joined #openid
- [04:13:46] <flaccid>
there isn't really a decent OP (at least php) server out there out of the box. certainly not one that does 2.0 and uses unmodified openid-libs
- [04:16:22] <the|saint>
hum...
- [04:16:31] <the|saint>
I was trying to get along with Clamshell
- [04:16:50] <the|saint>
It's not great... but of what I've seen it's pretty good...
- [04:17:14] <the|saint>
It's cool for a small user number i guess...
- [04:21:29] <flaccid>
badly designed
- [04:28:37] <the|saint>
specify...
- [04:28:46] <the|saint>
On architecture level?
- [04:28:50] <the|saint>
On UI level?
- [04:58:00] <flaccid>
all
- [04:58:19] <flaccid>
both. its hardly extensible either
- [04:58:39] <flaccid>
ie. where is the non hack needed server that uses a real oop framework
- [05:01:09] <keturn>
probably not in php ;)
- [05:02:29] <keturn>
(but no, that's just me being mean, there's probably not an open-source one in any other language either. closest that you come is probably the verisign/eastmedia ruby PIP)
- [05:10:27] <flaccid>
yeah. i mean im writing one of these, but im not sure what benefit i will have if release it back to the community and im a new public competitor..
- [05:27:23] <the|saint>
well
- [05:27:38] <the|saint>
thanks keturn for the tips
- [05:27:46] <the|saint>

elba1, it would depend of your provider of choice.
- [23:12:50] <Acro>
It is the provider - and not the specification - who has the responsibility of authenticating you. And the authentication need to support mobile browsers.
- [23:14:23] <elba1>
I meant in regards to having issue typing in the OpenID auth ID

elba1, your identity URL? I guess it would depend on mobile browsers to support some sort of recognization enabling them to autofill with your i-name (XRI) or URL...
- [23:19:09] <elba1>
yea, it's a real pain to type from a mobile browser
- [23:19:17] <elba1>
especially with the protocol prefix..
- [23:19:47] <Acro>
Your point is valid, but when it is decentralized i-names are the best approach. The need to be a mapping to a specific server, which unfortunatly makes the URL a bit long.
- [23:20:14] <Acro>
elba1, oh - normally I don't type the protocol prefix. I just hits in my domain, and most services will prefix it themselves.
- [23:20:21] <Acro>
You can't be sure though.
