hi, I'm interested in openid, but I'm wondering if I should run my own openID provider or not ? I want to use openid to have single-sign-on between all webservices in a single community
- [09:05:20] <Xteven>
also, if I would want to set up an openID provider, what is the best way to do so ? I found a list of openid provider software, but the first link I clicked brought me to something unmaintained... It would be nice to have a stable openid provider

Xteven: moinmoin the wiki includes one based on python-openid
- [09:14:00] * hillsy (n=shhi2@npfit3.dh.bytemark.co.uk) has joined #openid
- [09:15:13] <Xteven>
hmm
- [09:16:03] <Xteven>
I'd rather not install something I won't use, just to have an openid provider
- [09:16:37] * bens (n=bens@gateb.mh.bbc.co.uk) has joined #openid
- [09:34:45] <flaccid>
Xteven: your statements are kind of contradictary. the short answer = have your users get an openid.
- [09:34:59] <flaccid>
their openid can be with any provider
- [09:35:55] <flaccid>
so as long as those webservices support openid as relying parties then sweet. thing is web services are usually xml non-intreractive things. i guess you mean web sites
- [09:48:33] <Xteven>
yup websites
- [09:48:46] <Xteven>
blogs, forums, stuff like that
- [09:48:46] <flaccid>
all good then
- [09:49:39] <Xteven>
I guess it would be sortof pointless in a general sense, to have an openid provider for every community
- [09:50:28] <flaccid>
yeah exactly. its about the user having the choice to choose their openid provider
- [09:51:11] <Xteven>
I read that blogspot is experimenting with being an openid provider, but its not public yet so I can't try it out
- [09:51:14] <flaccid>
so websites only have to support openid as a relying party (consumer) and users just require an openID if that is the policy of the website
- [09:51:20] <Xteven>
any other openid providers I can try out ? :)
- [09:51:41] <flaccid>
there are a decent amount of decent openid providers
- [09:52:06] <flaccid>
http://wiki.openid.net/OpenIDServers
- [09:54:47] <Xteven>
ok thx

- [10:27:19] <flaccid>
Xteven: ask your distro in #fedora . there may not be one.
- [10:27:53] <Xteven>
thx, I did :)
- [10:28:46] <flaccid>
i'd assume you can search the repos as well. and maybe online here https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/ or fedora equiv
