i hope MS rides the coattails of openid
- [02:59:44] <wizard545>
either way, it's good for openid, atleast acceptance wise
- [03:00:36] <_keturn>
yeah, I've spent today talking to both Microsoft and the Apache Software Foundation. Guess who has been more cooperative. ;)
- [03:00:53] <wizard545>

- [03:04:51] <wizard545>

- [03:05:09] <wizard545>

but, you wrote someone a check for openid development and it wasn't us? goodness!
- [03:31:51] <wizard545>
_keturn: yea, it's more of an application that uses openid, not anything to do with the spec

Anyone here familiar with Drupal? I'm trying to figure out how to convert existing users in the Drupal user DB to use OpenIDs. I was tinkering with it last night and I think I'm missing something.
- [17:33:13] * SamRose (n=chatzill@c-71-197-25-180.hsd1.mi.comcast.net) Quit ("Chatzilla 0.9.77 [Firefox 2.0.0.1/2006120417]")
- [17:35:51] <jirwin>
gchaix: explain a bit more?
- [17:37:02] <gchaix>
So I have an existing user base on the Drupal site using the standard built-in Drupal auth. I'd like to be able to associate one of those existing users with an OpenID identity so that they can log in using an OpenID without having to create a new account.
- [17:37:21] <gchaix>

- [17:49:19] <jibot>
cygnus is WorkerBee(name="Jonathan Daugherty", company="JanRain, Inc.")
- [17:59:23] <jirwin>
gchaix: What I would do, is in the module, add a place for a user to add an openid, and then when logging in, when it checks to see if that id has logged in before(when it decides if it needed to grab an email address from the user, check to see if that openid exists in the db)
- [18:01:27] <jirwin>
gchaix: something to think about, is if you want to make it so the id needs to be unique or not.
- [18:02:45] <gchaix>
Hmm. I was thinking of doing up a little block that does nothing but prompt a logged-in (using Drupal auth) user for their OpenID and then writing the OpenID to the authmap table. I the problem I ran into, though, was the OpenID module appears to need something else. When I went in and manually added an authmap record for an existing Drupal uid, it prompted me with the new account email form instead of logging in. So the module must be looking at so
- [18:14:14] * hendry_ (n=hendry@87.112.86.103.bbplus.ptn-ag2.dyn.plus.net) has joined #openid

- [18:35:02] * j3h (n=j3h@c-71-236-228-127.hsd1.or.comcast.net) has joined #openid
- [18:36:14] <gchaix>
Does the Drupal module touch any tables other than the authmap?
- [18:42:53] <cygnus>
gchaix: it creates three of its own tables, but other than authmap, no, it touches no others.
- [18:49:10] <gchaix>
Hmm. I must be missing something, then. When I created an entry in the authmap table that maps an OpenID to an existing uid in the Drupal users table it doesn't seem to work. If I try to log into the server using the OpenID, it treats the login as a new user reg rather than logging into the existing account.
- [18:49:57] <cygnus>
was the OpenID in the authmap normalized?
- [18:51:42] <cygnus>
(i.e. did it have a scheme and trialing slash (if applicable)?)
- [18:51:44] <gchaix>
What do you mean by normalized? I tried it two ways, once just chaning the uid on a record created by the OpenID module to point to an existing Drupal user, and then tried creating one from scratch. Neither seemed to work
- [18:52:01] <cygnus>
i.e., the authmap must not contain me.myopenid.com, but rather http://me.myopenid.com/
- [18:52:03] <gchaix>
It did have a trailing slask
- [18:52:07] <gchaix>
slash
- [18:52:32] <gchaix>
Yes
- [18:54:11] * gchaix goes to try again just to make sure he's not totally whacked in the head :-)
- [18:56:56] <gchaix>
Umm ... ok. for some reason it worked this time. Last night I tried it a dozen times and failed every time.
- [18:57:05] * gchaix goes and hides in a corner now
- [18:57:41] <gchaix>
So I should just be able to add records to the authmap table to map OpenIDs to existing Drupal uids, correct?
