<samsm> Just got hit by MyOpenId being down ... I could swap out the delegation code for another provider, but it would be nice if there was an automatic way to accomplish that.
- [15:18:48] <openid_pibb>
<samsm> Any ideas about provider backups? Has this been discussed somewhere where I could read up on it?
- [15:20:03] <openid_pibb>
<keturn> if you're delegating with an XRDS file, you can add a second Service element
- [15:22:35] <webbr>
would that cause an automatic failover or would the consumer have to be configured to use the second if the first failed?
- [15:23:10] <openid_pibb>
<cygnus> it depends on the OpenID implementation, unfortunately.
- [15:23:51] <openid_pibb>
<cygnus> keturn, do we know of other OpenID libs (besides the JanRain variety) that do that?
- [15:24:34] <openid_pibb>
<keturn> I don't know. It's so rarely used that I've never found out.
- [15:25:38] <webbr>
speaking of the JanRain library, i am having some issues with it and my posts to the dev list don't seem to be getting through
- [15:26:39] <openid_pibb>
<cygnus> are you subscribed to the list/
- [15:26:40] <openid_pibb>
<cygnus> ?
- [15:27:03] <webbr>
yes, i checked that after my first post didn't get through on monday so i tried sending again today
- [15:28:20] <webbr>
ok, i just figured out why
- [15:29:02] <webbr>
i should have tested this before, turns out someone changed my outgoing email address so its not the one that i subscribed with

- [15:33:56] <webbr>
ok I just sent it again, but does anyone here have any ideas? I am getting the Bad Signature error that seems common in the JanRain library, but I have tested all the known fixes and it doesn't seem to be any of those

- [15:41:18] <openid_pibb>
<cygnus> Thanks for bearing with us.
- [15:41:40] <trel1023>
samsm: the auto failover is nice
- [15:43:50] <digitalspaghetti>
thats why i'm running my own one now :)
- [15:44:59] * martin-t (n=martin-t@adsl-75-6-240-13.dsl.pltn13.sbcglobal.net) has joined #openid
- [15:51:00] <openid_pibb>
<samsm> MyOpenId is not down very often, is probably much better maintained and updated than anything I'd implement, and can be swapped out to similar service provider with two lines of html.
- [15:51:08] <trel1023>
delegating to two makes it remarkably unlikely you'll be without a login -- delegating to three... a lock on making it possible to login
- [15:52:00] <trel1023>
if all three of your hosted openids are down - there is a big hole in the internet somewhere and there are probably bigger problems than not being able to leave a comment on someone's blog

Since AIM accounts are OpenID accounts, is there something special that one needs to do to allow people to use their AIM account?
- [20:48:08] <jfluhmann>
I'm using Net::OpenID::Consumer in a Perl program
- [20:48:38] <jfluhmann>
regular OpenID (well, at least mine at claimid.com) seems to work fine
- [20:48:53] <_keturn>
you should just be able to feed the aol openid to that like any other.

huh, that's a new one. is your return_to address pointing to an internal network or something?
- [21:03:10] <jfluhmann>
no, but it does have a parameter that's getting passed back
- [21:04:40] <jfluhmann>
I may try to separate that out, so that it returns to a different page and see if that fixes it.
