woo!
- [00:01:02] <polyonymous>
shorty ;)
- [00:01:31] <polyonymous>
but I thought sha256 base64 are shorter... perhaps you can resort to sha1 :)
- [00:01:44] * tav goes back to md5
- [00:01:46] <tav>
;p
- [00:01:47] <polyonymous>
anyway, I'm going off to sleep.
- [00:01:55] <tav>
thanks polyonymous
- [00:02:01] <polyonymous>
you're welcome

VxJasonxV is just another OpenID fan. Though he understands Yadis and follows it's progression.
- [00:07:53] <johnjay>
polyonymous/taz: I hear you. You have no idea how many times I bring up this issue with the people around me.
- [00:08:17] <johnjay>
I was simply pointing out that there is a way to prettify the OpenID identifier, as gimped as it maybe
- [00:12:28] <donomo>
gotta love those obscured yahoo openids
- [00:17:34] <tav>
johnjay: thanks
- [00:39:53] <johnjay>
Ooops, s:taz:tav: :-)
- [00:40:06] <tav>

any ideas for combining openid and IRC?

- [01:30:40] <johnjay>
I think Pibb already does this to some extent
- [01:30:53] <johnjay>
With the help of PibbRelay
- [01:31:18] <johnjay>
Or did you mean in terms of NickServ
- [01:31:32] <ffm>
pibbrelay?
- [01:31:34] <ffm>
cool.
- [01:31:40] <johnjay>
PibbRelay: hi
- [01:31:40] <PibbRelay>
johnjay: Error: "hi" is not a valid command.
- [01:31:55] <ffm>
johnjay: can I do it for my own room?
- [01:32:52] <johnjay>
ffm: Well I know PibbRelay is also used @ #twisted ... I'd imagine so but you'd probably have to ask the maintainer
- [01:33:12] <johnjay>
I don't think the actual relay client is available for the public
- [01:33:56] <johnjay>
ffm: is a channel on this network?
- [01:33:58] <ffm>
any idea why pibb rejects my annon openid?
- [01:34:03] <ffm>
johnjay: yepper. #olpc-es
- [01:34:14] <ffm>
johnjay: owner wants everything to be openid'd.

- [01:34:58] <johnjay>
ffm: I don't know why it would...I personally haven't tried with my own OP but with Y!
- [01:35:15] <johnjay>
why it wouldn't even
- [01:35:18] <ffm>
johnjay: it's the http://www.jkg.in/openid/
- [01:36:17] <johnjay>
Is your server 2.0?
- [01:37:32] <ffm>
johnjay: its not mine, its just the de facto annon openid provider. (no auth)
- [01:37:53] <johnjay>
Ahh
- [01:37:57] <johnjay>
Yeah that might be why
- [01:38:07] <johnjay>
I don't know Pibb's internally
- [01:40:28] <ffm>
btw, are there any free delegation sites?
- [01:40:56] <ffm>
that don't do their own openid, but let you delegate elsewhere? (I don't want to use "ffm.verisignlabs.com" and may want to change in the future)
- [01:42:36] <ffm>
johnjay: is pibb oss?
- [02:05:35] * jcollie (n=jcollie@dsl-ppp239.isunet.net) has joined #openid
- [02:06:12] <_keturn>
pibb blacklists jkg.in. it's sort of futile to blacklist OPs, since you can always start another one under another name, but servers that are known to have no authentication are considered to not provide valuable contributions to the discussion

should an openid server have its own interface for setting extra things like username/email/etc for a site?
- [05:18:16] <chuck>
i know some openid servers do, but the one i use for my shell service doesn't, and it doesn't work for some sites
- [05:19:20] <PibbRelay>
<tjgillies> i use myopenid.com since thats the one that seems to work for most. i used to use claimid but it wasn't working on a blog i use
- [05:24:06] <chuck>
tjgillies: i'm running my own openid provider
- [05:26:15] <PibbRelay>
<tjgillies> chuck: gotcha
- [05:29:18] <chuck>
i love the server a lot, it's perfect for what i needed as it uses PAM authentication, but i don't know if it's the latest openid protocol or whatever

I had a delegation question. Say you have a bunch of accounts on other sites that suddenly support using their service as an identity provider: a Yahoo account, a blogger account, a wordpress blog, whatever. Is it possible (or advisable) to put several openid.server and openid.delegate links on your homepage?
- [17:02:07] <montagg>
Trying to figure out a solution to tie these accounts together when each service doesn't always support logging in via OpenID.

I'd like to write an openid auth plugin for gforge. I see a number of consumer libraries. Can you recommend one in particular ? Ideally perl or php ...
- [18:23:49] <_keturn>
of the two, php libraries for OpenID are currently better supported than those for perl
- [18:25:25] <_keturn>
I'd recommend the libraries at openidenabled.com, but I'm one of the maintainers so I might be biased. ;)
- [18:26:53] <_keturn>
montagg: you can't put several openid.server links in a HTML page, but you can put several OpenID endpoints in an XRDS file
- [18:27:18] <_keturn>
but that may not do what you want in terms of tying accounts together
- [18:27:44] <_keturn>
the closest thing there is to that is something like the social graph stuff Brad is doing with Google
- [18:29:02] <montagg>
_keturn: I haven't heard of that. I'll have to check it out.
- [18:29:07] * Leonidas (n=Leonidas@unaffiliated/leonidas) has left #openid
- [18:32:00] <montagg>
_keturn: Yeah, this looks like what I had in mind. Although, on Brad's website, he does pretty much what I would do: just list everything.
- [18:34:31] <montagg>
The post I'm looking at: http://bradfitz.com/social-graph-problem/
- [18:34:39] <munga>
_keturn: thanks ! in fact the consumer example in you library is what I was looking for. :)

- [18:42:43] * stub is now known as stub-bedtime
- [18:50:44] <_keturn>
montagg: and after that was written, there is http://code.google.com/apis/socialgraph/
- [18:54:20] <montagg>
_keturn: Sweet. Looks cool.
- [18:58:15] <montagg>
_keturn: Do you know if Brad's collaborating with Berners-Lee and his semantic web stuff? (I know very little about either, only that they sound similar.)
- [19:00:04] <_keturn>
I'm not aware of any direct collaboration between the two, but the things mentioned there like XFN and FOAF are things that I believe did grow out of the semantic web movement

fwiw, eekim and I were talking about hCard and/or FOAF/XFN discovery during the openid auth process
- [19:37:46] <TedThibodeauJr>
(you're all aware of #foaf, yes? and the recent revival of foafbot a/k/a sparqlbot? worth exploring!)

Has anyone here implemented OpenID as a consumer with JanRain?
- [20:27:44] <Techboy>
If so, was it fairly straight-forward? :-)
- [20:28:29] <Techboy>
No? Okay, I'll be the first then ;-)
