Hello all... I was referred here as a place I might find some help figuring out why Google and Yahoo aren't working right with my PHP-OpenID install.
- [20:46:42] * daleolds (n=daleolds@137.65.157.16) Quit ("Leaving.")
- [20:46:55] * daleolds (n=daleolds@137.65.157.16) has joined #openid
- [20:47:13] <singpolyma>
DanG: you using JanRain PHP?
- [20:47:18] <DanG>
Yes I am
- [20:47:48] <DanG>
Getting a null return whenever I pass the Google or Yahoo URLs through the begin() function
- [20:47:49] <singpolyma>
Latest version? Sending in http://yahoo.com/ and http://hariy-huge-thing/ correctly?
- [20:48:15] <DanG>
ver 2.1.3, latest one I see at openidenabled.com
- [20:49:02] <singpolyma>
$consumer->begin('https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id') returns NULL ?
- [20:49:38] <DanG>
It works with every site I've tried except Yahoo and Google, which I assume has to do in some way with the fact that they have the discovery on their end? (Sorry, I'm still kinda new to this)
- [20:49:46] <DanG>
Yes that's correct
- [20:50:28] <singpolyma>
The PHP library comes with an example consumer, yes? What happens when you enter the Google URI into that on your server?
- [20:50:40] <DanG>
Same thing
- [20:51:14] <DanG>
You get the error "Authentication error; not a valid OpenID.", which is returned when that comes back as null
- [20:51:35] <singpolyma>
What if you run the example client locally?
- [20:53:03] <DanG>
Fairly sure I got the same problem, let me run it again to make sure, just a moment
- [20:54:50] <DanG>
Yeah, same result
- [20:55:51] <singpolyma>
Very odd. I just tested all my PHP sites again and they're working on Google
- [20:56:43] * MacTed (n=Thud@63.119.36.36) Quit ()
- [20:57:29] <DanG>
It also has no problem working with Yahoo when I go through Flickr, only when I try to use yahoo.com
- [20:58:18] <singpolyma>
strange
- [20:58:25] * daleolds (n=daleolds@137.65.157.16) has left #openid
- [20:59:31] * keturn (n=kevint@c-98-246-6-235.hsd1.or.comcast.net) has joined #openid
- [20:59:33] <singpolyma>
I mean, it seems like it has to be your server or something, since the example consumer won't work, but if it won't work locally either that seems a bit of an odd coincidence
- [21:01:57] <flaccid>
DanG did you post on stackoverflow ?
- [21:02:25] <DanG>
I did
- [21:06:49] <DanG>
okay wait, now the example consumer is working on my remote host
- [21:13:40] <flaccid>
i tested it on my server of the same implementation and it was no problem
- [21:13:56] <flaccid>
thus DanG my post on stackoverflow
- [21:14:11] <flaccid>
i got both google and yahoo to work no problems
- [21:14:48] <flaccid>
maybe you modified lib code or high-level logic code ?
- [21:15:20] <flaccid>
singpolyma you did the wp simple xrds plugin with will norris ?
- [21:15:34] <singpolyma>
flaccid: yes
- [21:15:50] <flaccid>
singpolyma thanks so much for that. i'm really happy with it :)
- [21:15:55] <singpolyma>
:)
- [21:16:29] <flaccid>
you must be in an alternate timezone to me coz you are always off when i'm on but i pulled an all nighter here in AU/Sydney
- [21:16:36] <DanG>
Well I'm trying to figure out what's different now, I basically copied just all the example code to use on my own project... I've obviously missed something though. The example is now working on the remote host though, so I know I messed up somewhere.
- [21:17:04] <flaccid>
sounds about right. there is unit testing as well with that if you know how to use it
- [21:19:04] <flaccid>
DanG i recommend using a VCS such as Subversion to deploy to your prod env to ensure application integrity
- [21:19:10] <singpolyma>
flaccid: I'm west coast US just now, usually east coast Canada
- [21:19:18] <flaccid>
ah yep makes sense
- [21:20:40] <DanG>
flaccid: thanks for the tips, I'll keep playing with it. I'm still a pretty big noob with this stuff so I'll consider this to be a learning experience. :P
- [21:21:05] <flaccid>
cool best of luck then

hello everyone
- [23:45:49] <flaccid_>
howdy
- [23:46:42] <MasterZ>
how are you today?
- [23:47:09] <flaccid_>
um pretty average
- [23:47:12] <flaccid_>
you ?
- [23:47:30] <MasterZ>
being lazy today
- [23:48:04] <MasterZ>
by the way, I figured out how to grab the normalized URL from the OpenID libs!
- [23:48:09] <MasterZ>
it works great
- [23:48:16] <flaccid_>
cool what was it
- [23:48:55] <MasterZ>
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1025160/retrieve-the-formated-url-from-openid-form
- [23:49:13] <MasterZ>
basically $openid = $response->getDisplayIdentifier();
- [23:49:31] <MasterZ>
after the if ($response->status == Auth_OpenID_SUCCESS) {
- [23:51:21] <flaccid_>
ok they named the method as a get bla bla. one of the things i don't like about php. that was unsearchable in the phpdoc
- [23:51:49] <flaccid_>
that method doesn't relate to the spec in any semantic way
- [23:52:02] <MasterZ>
what do you mean?
- [23:52:11] <flaccid_>
i mean what i sai
- [23:52:12] <flaccid_>
d
- [23:52:23] <MasterZ>
lol
- [23:52:24] <flaccid_>
the spec calls it uri normalization
- [23:52:37] <flaccid_>
the method is called getDisplayIdentifier
- [23:52:40] <MasterZ>
it looks like that does just that
- [23:52:50] <flaccid_>
thats not said in teh spec
- [23:52:50] <flaccid_>
sure
- [23:53:02] <flaccid_>
but i couldn't find it because it called it something stupid
- [23:53:12] <MasterZ>
what spec are you talking about?
- [23:53:22] <flaccid_>
the openid spec !
- [23:53:47] <MasterZ>
getDisplayIdentifier() is a function in the PHP Libs from JanRain, it wouldn't be mentioned in the spec
- [23:54:01] <flaccid_>
of course
- [23:54:45] <flaccid_>
this is not the suport channel for that lib, also the method name has nothing to do with spec. it could been called getNormalizedURI
- [23:55:03] <flaccid_>
then i would of found it because url normlization is part of the openid spec
- [23:55:42] <MasterZ>
either way, if you want to grab the normalized URL using the PHP libs, that's how you do it :D
- [23:56:11] <flaccid_>
*using janrain libs* you mean
- [23:56:19] <flaccid_>
some people use other libs and other languages
- [23:56:27] <MasterZ>
ah
- [23:56:29] <flaccid_>
\
- [23:56:33] <MasterZ>
but there is no official libs
- [23:56:45] <flaccid_>
well no that would be stupid
- [23:56:48] <MasterZ>
Janrain seems to be the most common
- [23:57:06] <flaccid_>
yeah
- [23:57:37] <MasterZ>
Now I just need to figure out why yahoo and Google ID's don't work :-/
- [23:59:11] <DanG>
