<hugepaw> anyone around for some quick help with myopenid?
- [01:36:53] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> Sure
- [01:37:20] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> Thanks. Nice horse. OK, here's my problem.
- [01:37:44] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> Well, I do try to be nice! ^_^
- [01:38:09] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> I go to live journal, enter the myopenid url and try to post my comment
- [01:38:21] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> (A very witty one)
- [01:38:45] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> the myopenid page appears. Here's what it says:
- [01:38:46] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> rightyo, then what happens?
- [01:38:57] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> OpenID Verification
- [01:39:37] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> A site identifying itself as http://www.livejournal.com has asked us for confirmation that http://tos.myopenid.com/ is your identity URL
- [01:39:49] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> but
- [01:39:58] * Roebot_ (n=Roebot@ip68-101-200-165.sd.sd.cox.net) has joined #openid
- [01:40:13] * Roebot_ is now known as Roebot
- [01:40:25] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> there's no button to click, no place to enter a password, nothing. It recognizes me - my url is sitting in the upper right
- [01:40:50] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> So I'm stuck at that screen with no way forward
- [01:41:03] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> Now what?
- [01:41:14] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> Hmm, usually there would be buttons labeled something like "Allow Forever, Allow Once, Deny Once"
- [01:41:27] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> That would be helpful.
- [01:42:54] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> have you tried it with any other sites?
- [01:43:06] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> Where are they usually? under the blurb I posted above? There's some open space there.
- [01:43:18] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> yes, thats where they should be
- [01:43:31] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> some useful info would be the myopenid username you tried to use, the web browser you
- [01:43:43] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> you're using, and maybe the page you tried to submit a comment on
- [01:44:11] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> but panning the pointer through doesn't yeild any changes to a hand.
- [01:44:24] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> working...
- [01:44:25] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> changes? why would it make changes if there's no buttons there for you?
- [01:44:50] <idnar>
well, it's possible the buttons are there, just not visible; but if the mouse cursor doesn't change, then probably not
- [01:44:56] <idnar>
(or maybe they are there, but have zero size)
- [01:45:09] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> http://users.livejournal.com/_nessa_lykke_/
- [01:45:24] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> buttons don't usually cause a mouse cursor change, they're buttons, not links
- [01:45:48] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> you could try resizing your browser window slightly to make sure it's not a browser rendering glitch
- [01:46:34] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> (idnar, thanks - if I knew where the buttons were supposed to be, and which one was the alow forever (like middle or leftmost) I'd be fine
- [01:46:59] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> ok, BB
- [01:47:12] <idnar>
which browser are you using?
- [01:47:24] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> also when I highlight the page nothing shows
- [01:48:43] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> If the buttons aren't there, I don't see how highlighting stuff and floating your mouse around and so forth would help
- [01:49:18] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> ie 7, win xp, url http://tos.myopenid.com/
- [01:50:26] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> maybe not, but when i hover over the post button here the cursor changes. it was just a thought. if it doesn't work, no animals were harmed...
- [01:51:51] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> yes, but the Post button here is in fact not a button
- [01:52:01] <PibbRelay>
<keturn> Huh. There's nothing there that shouldn't work in IE7. Have you made any language settings on myOpenID?
- [01:52:14] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> it's a text link, but instead of text, they put an image that looks an aweful lot like a button inside the text link
- [01:52:16] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> BB - not there, yes, not visible, another story. I think I provided everything - if not, let me know
- [01:52:27] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> real buttons don't create a different mouse cursor
- [01:52:50] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> see, (BB) I forgot my magic glasses! :)
- [01:54:24] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> Well, since I don't have them I figured I'd desperately grasp as straws. It was a very witty comment and I'd hate to lose it. I may go back nd see if I
- [01:54:47] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> it comes up and I can copy it :)
- [01:55:09] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> Keturn - no
- [01:55:27] * dynamo (n=dynamo@c-76-105-199-160.hsd1.or.comcast.net) has joined #openid
- [01:55:33] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> (Thanks for asking)
- [01:55:39] * peace-keeper (n=peace-ke@c-24-91-177-185.hsd1.ma.comcast.net) has joined #openid
- [01:55:45] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> (Keturn is more likely to have a clue than some random horse)
- [01:59:40] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> Hmm, I was wrong about the Post button in pibb, but it still isn't a real button
- [02:03:09] <PibbRelay>
<keturn> The page is supposed to look like this: <a target='_blank' href='http://img184.imageshack.us/my.php?image=trustpagehh7.png'><img src='http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/8254/http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/8254/trustpagehh7.th.png' border='0'/></a> Are there any other elements missing? i.e. the menu bar on the right or the footer?
- [02:03:20] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> Anyone still here?
- [02:04:08] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> ok, I guess I wasn't at the bottom of the page. Let me check thoselinks
- [02:05:49] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> OH! That's lovely. Where you have 2 green lines in the middle of the box, I only have one. And the lower portion is empty
- [02:06:46] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> and when I refresh the page it stays the same
- [02:07:20] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> If this werw IRC I'd say we were lagged
- [02:07:31] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> The blue "your account is there
- [02:08:19] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> everything else, too. just not the part that "works"
- [02:10:11] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> I tried clicking where the buttons should be, but no luck. (I Know, BB, but it was worth a try...)
- [02:11:09] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> (no, it really wasn't)
- [02:11:20] <PibbRelay>
<keturn> ** keturn installs IE
- [02:11:32] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> resizing, refreshing - no help. I may start over if I can recreate the post.
- [02:11:56] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> Wow! You're going all out!
- [02:13:50] <PibbRelay>
<keturn> well, I should have it here anyway. But it will be IE6, and no .NET 3.5, but ...
- [02:15:53] <PibbRelay>
<keturn> awesome, the buttons don't show up in IE6 either
- [02:16:33] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> (BB I thought you tried to be nice! I'm desperate here :)
- [02:17:10] <PibbRelay>
<keturn> oh, I wonder ...
- [02:18:43] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> Keturn - do I get a parade in my honor?
- [02:18:50] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> desperate? can't you just comment anonymously for this moment?
- [02:19:39] <PibbRelay>
<keturn> hugepaw: is this the first time you've signed in anywhere with that myOpenID account?
- [02:25:28] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> brb
- [02:25:41] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> yes
- [02:26:18] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> hmmm - your comments here don't update unless I type something in. Maybe I'm cursed!
- [02:26:30] <PibbRelay>
<keturn> yeah. when I signed out of myOpenID and signed in again, it seemed to be okay. So I think it's a new-account bug, not an IE bug.
- [02:26:43] <PibbRelay>
<keturn> you are cursed, you don't show up as "online" to the rest of us.
- [02:26:54] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> I created the acct to be able to post on that page
- [02:27:17] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> AAARRRRGH! I'm a vampire!
- [02:27:31] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> weird
- [02:27:42] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> I'm not used to being buggy.
- [02:28:23] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> hugepaw, there used to be an issue in safari with that bug
- [02:28:36] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> let me try
- [02:28:37] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> can you see anyone logged in in the "Logged In Users" list to the right?
- [02:29:15] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> BB - so it's all just a "big game" to you, hmmmmm?
- [02:29:16] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> sounds like weird hex pibb subdomain's strike again
- [02:29:27] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> BB - no
- [02:29:38] <PibbRelay>
<keturn> so, yeah, I'd try signing out and in to myOpenID again. but I hope you've found a way to copy your comment because I'm not sure if it'll survive that.
- [02:30:15] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> BB - safari and MYOPID or PIBB?
- [02:30:17] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> janrain did something a bit naughty to work around a limit browser makers intentionally had coded in to their browsers (darn those janrain hackers!) and sometimes it seems to break, and what you're seeing is the result
- [02:30:18] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> and pibb
- [02:30:26] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> myopenid generally is incredibly stable and reliable from my experience
- [02:30:28] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> the comment was lost but I recreated it
- [02:30:48] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> and posted it "anomalously"
- [02:35:28] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> working...
- [02:35:29] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> It worked!!
- [02:35:33] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> yay!
- [02:36:33] * Manfre (n=manfre@cpe-075-178-188-115.nc.res.rr.com) has left #openid
- [02:36:44] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> but it's not as cool as I had hoped. I wish it would just leave a username instead of a url.
- [02:37:21] <PibbRelay>
<hugepaw> Thanks for your help (and, BB, derision!)
- [02:38:07] <PibbRelay>
<Blueberry> you're mean :(
- [02:39:28] <PibbRelay>

<hugepaw> nice horsey. You're just not old enough to understand about those buttons and the work and hours it takes to regain them if you don't find some way of pushing them. All those things are valid strategies in some circumstances. If you can't see 'em, you don't know what type of programming element they are.
